SUMMARY
There were a number of problems concerning the George Sutter Park duck pond over the last two years.
Numerous attempts were made with Local Government to solicit the support of the Ekurhuleni Metro to assist with ensuring that the water level of the duck pond be maintained at an acceptable level in order to sustain the continued life of the ducks, geese and fish. These attempts were not successful.
Due to the poor response of the Metro, the Chamber decided to step in and initiate a rescue plan. Arrangements were made to relocate the ducks, geese and fish. The purpose for relocating was for the team to renovate the duck pond, sink a new borehole and install a new borehole pump. Forthcoming from this, a Forum was established under the auspices of the Chamber, consisting of the following organisations:- the EGCCI, Afriforum and businesses in and around Springs.
To date, the duck pond has been renovated.
