Media Release:

WORK TO REPAIR THE BURNT SPRINGS BULK JVA SUB-STATION CONTINUES

Ekurhuleni technicians are working around the clock to effect repairs and replacements on the damaged components following the fire that engulfed the Springs Bulk JVA 132/22kV Sub-station on Sunday, 16 February 2020 at about 4PM.

The prompt response from the city’s energy department saw areas such Casseldale, the Central Business District (CBD), Bakerton, Strubenvale, Nuffield 1, Everest, Gugulethu, Selection Park and Springs Mall being restored immediately on Sunday.

The Energy department is working on establishing the cause of the fire, while technicians are continuously assessing other existing alternative power supplies to restore more areas that are currently off. On Tuesday, 18 February, power supply to the New Era and Rietfontein water reservoirs was fully restored. Some residential areas that are back on include; Reedville, Dalfouche, Wright Park, New Estates, Springs Extension and Far East Rand hospital.

Currently technicians are on site caring out preparatory work for installation of temporary supply to restore power to all customers.

Furthermore, large power users may soon be requested to reduce their consumption in order to enable the city to sufficiently supply other customers during this emergency period.

Residents are warned to treat all electrical installations as live at all times.

The City of Ekurhuleni apologises for any inconvenience caused.
