NEWS BULLETIN: PLANNED POWER OUTAGE WITHIN SPRINGS AREA “Due to urgent maintenance work, the power supply will be switched off on Thursday, 16 July 2020 from 08:00 until 18:00: Please note that the following areas will be affected:
  • New Era
  • Wright Park
  • Pollak Park
  • Dal Fouché
  • Fulcrum
  • Springs Ext.
  • Reedville
  • As well as Fulcrum / Dal Fouché / Rietfontein Reservoirs
  Work to restore power will be undertaken with the intention of restoring power to the affected area. No guarantee can however be given that this deadline will be met. Work will however continue until the urgent maintenance work has been completed. All Electrical Networks, Equipment shall be regarded as being electrically alive at all times while the maintenance is performed. The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality apologizes for any inconvenience caused. Please take note that the planned activities will include Transformer Maintenance and Testing  / NEC Tests  and Switchgear Maintenance at the JVA Substation.

Updated COVID-19 Regulations

1)    Directions to address, prevent and combat the spread of COVID - 19 issued out by the Department of Transport in terms of regulation 4(7) of the Regulations issued in terms of the Disaster Management Act. 2002 (Act No. 57 of 2002). These directions were issued out on 01 May 2020. 2)    Amendment of Directive by the minister of Employment and Labour in terms of Regulation 10 (8) of the regulations issued by the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in terms of Section 27 (2) of the Disaster Management Act, 2002 (Act No. 57 of 2002). 3)    Directions on the Risk – Adjusted Strategy for the Communications and Digital Technologies Sector under Regulation 4(10) of the Disaster Management Act, 2002 (ACT No.57 of 2002). NEW ERA SUBSTATION POWER OUTAGE NOTICE

As received from Ekurhuleni: 

All customers that are currently  connected on the New Era Substation will be disconnected today at 13h00 for approximately 4 hours.  The reason for the disconnection is to cut  and swing the 22KV cable into the new RMU’s in order to make provision for additional customer to be included on the temporary supply.

Update on the work to repair the burnt Springs Bulk JVA Sub-Station

19 February 2020 Media Release:

WORK TO REPAIR THE BURNT SPRINGS BULK JVA SUB-STATION CONTINUES

Ekurhuleni technicians are working around the clock to effect repairs and replacements on the damaged components following the fire that engulfed the Springs Bulk JVA 132/22kV Sub-station on Sunday, 16 February 2020 at about 4PM. The prompt response from the city’s energy department saw areas such Casseldale, the Central Business District (CBD), Bakerton, Strubenvale, Nuffield 1, Everest, Gugulethu, Selection Park and Springs Mall being restored immediately on Sunday. The Energy department is working on establishing the cause of the fire, while technicians are continuously assessing other existing alternative power supplies to restore more areas that are currently off. On Tuesday, 18 February, power supply to the New Era and Rietfontein water reservoirs was fully restored. Some residential areas that are back on include; Reedville, Dalfouche, Wright Park, New Estates, Springs Extension and Far East Rand hospital. Currently technicians are on site caring out preparatory work for installation of temporary supply to restore power to all customers. Furthermore, large power users may soon be requested to reduce their consumption in order to enable the city to sufficiently supply other customers during this emergency period. Residents are warned to treat all electrical installations as live at all times. The City of Ekurhuleni apologises for any inconvenience caused.
